If you want a place in the middle of the mountain, you can go to Krossbu Tourist Lodge located in Bøverdalen in the middle of beautiful Sognefjell. The tourist cabin is 1267 metres above sea level and has space for motorhomes, caravans and tents in addition to the hotel. For motorhomes and caravans there is a prepared site a few hundred metres from the hotel, but there is no electricity. If you want an electric pitch, you have to stay a little closer to the hotel. Although this was in early July, it was only a couple of degrees above zero outside and therefore nice to have the heat on in the car. Krossbu has no booking function for the campsite on the website but we booked a place via email.
As Krossbu is essentially a mountain hotel, they don't have a lot of facilities for motorhomes, but you do have access to a toilet and shower. Of course, you can also book in for meals at the hotel. They serve breakfast, lunch and a three-course dinner. To create a family feeling, guests are placed at the same table and we had a nice dinner with a couple of Dutch brothers and a girl from Berlin. There were many discussions about the best hiking trails and about travelling to faraway countries.
The best thing about Krossbu, however, was its location in the middle of the mountains. There are several trails starting from the hotel or its immediate surroundings. We took a trip to one of Norway's largest glaciers Smørstabbrean, where a part of the Bøverbrean glacier is just a few hours hike from Krossbu.
