One of the beautiful September days we decided to take the motorhome up to northern Värmland to hike in Hovfjället nature reserve. Hovfjället is mainly a winter sports resort so the range of accommodation is a bit scanty this time of year but along the 45 we found little Camping 45. As the name suggests, the campsite is right along the main road, yet it was surprisingly quiet. In the evening, there was the occasional motorised youth with a loud EPA thundering past but at night we could sleep peacefully without too much traffic noise.
The campsite is run by Frank and Doro, who put their heart and soul into making sure you have a good stay. You get good help finding good trails for your hike and the service is top notch. In the small reception there is a shop where they sell, among other things, Doro's homemade jam.
The campsite was the first in Sweden to be environmentally certified according to Green Key, something the owners are very proud of. The campsite is run sustainably and everywhere you will find small signs with tips on what you as a guest can do to help.
The campsite has a service building with showers, toilets, dishwashing facilities and a washing machine. There's also a building with a kitchen and living room if you get tired of hanging out in your motorhome or cabin. The facilities are a bit old and worn but clean and tidy. The owners are currently doing various renovations and the latest addition was a new swimming pool with a lovely sun deck.
On the whole a nice campsite with an excellent location for hiking at Hovfjället. If you want to read about our hiking trip you can click here.
