Sjötorp södra motorway service area

Real motorway service area with views of the Göta Canal.

Sjötorp's lock area is known as the start (or end) of the Göta Canal locks and of course has a number of pitches. We chose to park down in the guest harbour where there are 12 places with electricity. Here it was the nicest and also close to cafes and restaurants. The pitches can be booked in advance at Göta Canal website, which is probably necessary in summer. This Easter it was good to just drop in. Note that there is also a caravan park that is not as nice and which has no view of the water, Sjötorp norra.

A slightly overcast morning in the harbour.

The car park is more expensive than most other car parks we have been to, which pulls down the rating, but you pay well for the location and proximity to the locks. Otherwise, there is nothing else that particularly stands out, but there is at least access to shower and toilet in a fresh service building. For fresh water and grey water drainage, you are referred to the harbour and the gas station.

Anyway, we had a nice evening and a good start to our Easter trip. Special thanks also to Café Baltzar von Platen who saved us from a hungry evening when we had left without checking if shops and restaurants were open. 🙂
