”Hello all life lovers! Eva and Henrik here again. We are now slowly starting to turn homewards. In true slowcation spirit, we skip the motorway and instead take the road via Belgium and the Netherlands.
After a couple of interesting and gripping days in Ypres, we headed for the fairytale village of Bruges. No one has missed that we like sweets and in Belgium you can really go ”all in”.
We had a bit of a parking problem when we stopped in Bruges and our spirits were therefore somewhat down, but once inside the beautiful city, the mood was on the way up again. A waffle later, the mood was on top! 🧇 As we strolled around the city, Henrik began to sense my slightly wandering gaze, but he soon understood what I was looking for, chocolate! 🍫 We warmed up with some chocolates in one of the city's many praline shops. A personal favourite is Leonidas, but there really is a lot of good chocolate here.
The highlight of the day was The old chocolate house, a traditional chocolate cafe whose speciality is hot chocolate. Check out these creations that you put in the bottom of your big cup and then fill with hot milk, heavenly! 😋
To be honest, I think we ”forgot” about lunch this day. But that's the way it is with holidays, you can do exactly as you want. 🤩
The next day we travelled to Ghent, a slightly larger city but just as nice and a little more vibrant. And yes, the chocolate was just as good. 😀 We also found the next treat on the list, Cuberdons, Ghent's noses. A somewhat unexpected Belgian speciality that is like marmalade candy but with a slightly harder surface. Henrik was lyrical, I was a little more sceptical.
Before we arrived in Ghent, we also got a good motorhome tip. In both Ghent and Bruges they have free car parks, Park & Ride, where you easily hop on the bus, or bike, into town. After a few kilometres along the water on good cycle paths, the mighty medieval castle of Gravensteen towered up and we arrived in Ghent.
What do you think of these cities? Those of you who have been to both, which one did you like best? Our favourite was probably Ghent. Read more about why in our longer blog post. Link in the comments.
Have a nice day!
Eva & Henrik”
